Jeffrey Groom, PhD, CRNA

Dr. Groom is a seasoned educator, clinician, researcher and consultant. Combining his diverse clinical background with his doctorate in instructional technology focusing on simulation, Dr. Groom has incorporated experiential learning and simulation-based instruction in his teaching for nurses, physicians, and health professionals for over 35 years. During this time, he has designed and implemented instructional simulation methodologies for numerous disciplines during his professional career in emergency medical services, military, hospital practice, and academic settings. His research validating the psychological and physiological response of trainees during simulation and the role of medical simulation in improving medical decision-making under stress received first place award recognition at the 2006 International Meeting on Medical Simulation. Dr. Groom has over 16 years’ experience in programmatic professional educational accreditation for nursing and nurse anesthetist education programs. He is a frequent invited speaker at numerous national and international venues. He has overseen the design, construction and operations of two large-scale simulation facilities and serves as a consultant in simulation education and sits on the Editorial Board for the Journal of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Dr. Groom is currently the Associate Dean and Clinical Professor for the Simulation Hospital and the International Academy for Clinical Simulation and Research at University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. He also serves as instructor and consultant for emergency medical instruction and simulation at the University of Miami, Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education. He holds clinical staff privileges for anesthesia nursing practice with University of Miami Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida.
